First landscape enhancement initiative projects now underway
The first wave of LEI funding was awarded in June 2017, where more than £400,000 was granted to projects in the High Weald AONB, the North York Moors National Park and the Peak District National Park. Monitoring is now underway on the following live projects:
- Beautiful Boundaries (High Weald AONB): reducing the visual impact of overhead transmission lines by enhancing the landscape through restoration of ancient boundary features including hedgerows, fencing and woodland
- Over Silton to Thimbleby Bridleway Upgrade (North York Moors National Park): diverting attention away from the overhead line by improving the surface of a 2.2km public bridleway to provide a safe and attractive route
- Central Longdendale Trails Landscape and Access Enhancements (Peak District National Park): reducing the visual and landscape impact of the overhead line through screening and enhancing access for all by improving trails and creating accessible circular routes
